working in a place where you deal with the public very often, you’re bound to run into some interesting names out there. i’ve always had an interest in the unusual names. here are a couple i ran into in the past week:
Venance Lengkeek
Corridon Lapati

today at work, after helping a woman with her order, she simply said “God bless you.” i’ve had several people tell me that before they hang up, i just say “same to you” and hang up. but this one lady then proceeded to ask me “do you know the Lord?” of course, not being quick with the thinking, i said “no.” this was a baaaaad idea. she then said “oh child, i pray that you get to know the Lord. he loves you, and he knows you.” i just nodded (though you can’t see it over the phone) and said “uh-huh.” she then started in praying, right there on the phone with me, for God to let Himself be known to me.
now, i’m not religious. i’m agnostic. i’m usually fine with other people who are religious, as long as they don’t throw it upon me and expect me to think just like them.
i felt quite uneasy after that conversation. it was rude, and really unnecessary.

well, the moving is almost over. today was spent cleaning out the old apartment totally, we’re not going back there again. but there’s still a load of stuff in my mom’s car that needs to go into storage. other than that, it’s done! we’re moved into my father’s apartment for a little while. i just need to sort out my room and make it livable.. that will be a small feat.
i’m utterly exhausted. i need time to recuperate, but that’s not going to happen for a while. i have work tomorrow. and it’s an early work, 7:30-4:00… ugh!

tomorrow’s the big day. i’m finally moving into my father’s place for a few weeks. this isn’t going to be an easy feat, i have a lot of stuff to move. on top of that, my RoadRunner connection is going to be disconnected tomorrow sometime between 8am and 4pm. that’s a pretty generous time slot.
hopefully i’ll be back up and online tomorrow night at the new apartment, but i have no guarantees. i know i will suffer internet withdrawal. but hopefully my cell phone will help ease the transition. i love having a phone that can txt and email.

Sharpie came out with 5 new colors the other week, and they’re earthy colors. inexplicably, this made me happy.
the new colors are as follows (with a close approximation to the colors): Navy, Plum, Olive, Marigold and Burgundy

is this what i get for being a long time Apple fan? i spent years extolling the virtues of owning a Mac. their simplicity, the way everything was intuitive. the way a computer should be; user-centric. but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. after years of praising their users, it seems that Apple has decided that if you can’t pay the dues, you can’t be a member of the club (or should i call it a cult?).
my next computer will most definitely be a PC, whether it be a laptop (i hope) or a desktop, i will not purchase another Mac. the reason for this is the way apple’s been acting towards their long-time users. the new Mac OS X 10.3 needs the latest and greatest of Mac hardware to run half-way decent. from technologies like the 64-bit processing abilities of the new OS to go with the 64-bit G5, to the technology of Quartz Extreme (that actually uses the graphics card for processing graphics) that needs the new graphics cards to be able to work (i have a decent graphics card that has enough RAM to deal with QE, but Apple decided that it wants me to upgrade, so i won’t allow QE to work for me)
and now when i try to use iChat, an application that has been free up until now, to try and use the video chat ability, it tells me that it’s now expired, and i either have to shell out $130 for a new OS that has a shit load of bells and whistles that will not work on my computer, or pay $29.95 for the new version of iChatAV. as a friend of mine said, this makes Yahoo! (or Microsoft) look generous.
now, don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying that if you have an old Apple //e that you shouldn’t need to upgrade the hardware to use the new software, but i have a PowerMac equipped with dual 450MHz G4 processors, an ATI Rage128 pro graphics card, and 1.5GB of RAM. i should be able to do pretty much anything the new hardware can do, albeit a little slower.
it’s a sad day when Apple turns it’s back on the users that have supported the company through it’s hard times. the attitude of upgrade of kiss our collective a$$es is not good business practice, and i have a feeling they will find that out all in due time.

just a couple more cool links to the outside world before i call it a night.
remember transformers from when you were a kid? (the metal ones, not the crappy plastic ones like they make now).. the RX-8 even has an autobot logo on it’s hood!
and check out the highly disturbing, yet beautiful artwork of Mark Ryden in his gallery “Blood: miniature paintings of sorrow and fear”
enjoy!
