Another Application

June 30th, 2005 by T-Fresh

I just mailed out (yeah, old school) an application, cover letter and résumé to Saint Joseph’s College for a position of “Assistant to the Help Desk Manager/PC Technician.” It’s the same exact job I was doing while going to school in Florida. I can so do the job, and love it. It’s probably one job that I wouldn’t wake up each morning and dread having to go to work that day. I really hope I get it, or at least get a call back about an interview. At least a chance would be nice.

What happens during circumcision?

June 29th, 2005 by T-Fresh

I don’t think I care for this at all. I wish I hadn’t been cut like this. Of course, this is not work safe — it contains photos of the actual procedure.

tedaĵo – boring

June 27th, 2005 by T-Fresh

Well, nothing in my life has been too awful exciting lately. I’ve been applying for more jobs, but haven’t heard anything from any of them yet. I’m not sure what to do next. I’m thinking I should just look for another temp agency to try other than ManPower since they suck and don’t seem to like me. I’ve been applying for jobs like administrative assistants and receptionists because there’s nothing else listed that I can really do. I’m not a machinist or qualified in the medical field.

The weather lately has been horrid. It’s been the three Hs lately; Hazy, Hot and Humid. It’s been so gross that I’ve not been sleeping well at night, and the house is actually cooler if the windows are left closed. I’ve also been pestering a friend who has air conditioning to let me visit him often so I can benefit. I’m a terrible person like that, but I try to be useful while I’m there! But, oddly, today’s been rather cool. It’s such a shock after having temperatures reaching to 98°F (36°C) to have it be 55°F (13°C) and overcast.

I’ve also found a “Podcast(Answers.com definition)”:http://www.answers.com/topic/podcast that I like. I’m usually not into the whole audio-blog thing, but this one is pretty great. It’s called TWiT — This Week in Tech and it’s hosted by all the people who used to be on “The Screensavers(Wikipedia entry)”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Screen_Savers when it was on TechTV. There’s “Leo Laporte”:http://www.leoville.com/, “Kevin Rose”:http://www.kevinrose.com/, Roger Chang, Robert Heron, David Prager, and my favorite, “Patrick Norton”:http://patricknorton.typepad.com/ (he’s so “dreamy(photo!)”:/images/post/patrickNorton.jpg). Each episode is about an hour long, and it’s just fun to listen to them ramble on about what happened in tech that week. Give it a listen.

You also may have noticed a change in the look of this site. I worked on this design for a while because I personally got tired of the brown gradients, though others seemed to like it. I think it’s brighter and a little cleaner now. Let me know what you think, and if you think anything should be changed. I’m always tinkering with new designs, so you may see your ideas incorporated!

I’ve also been attempting to learn “Esperanto(lernu!)”:http://www.lernu.net — an artificial international language with a vocabulary based on word roots common to many European languages and a regularized system of inflection. More to come on that as I learn more.

Other than that, nothing else has really been happening. Well, there is one thing, but it’s nothing I feel like writing about here. If you know me, ask and see if I’ll tell you.

Friday Forum – Money

June 23rd, 2005 by T-Fresh

1. If someone gave you $100 right now, how would you spend it and why? (No catches are involved; you can spend the money anywhere and in any way you want.) Would you make a bunch of small purchases or use the money for one big item?

bq. There are a lot of things I’d like to buy, so it’s difficult picking just $100 worth of splurges. I’d have to say I’d definitely get the bottle of ink I’ve had my eye on for a while now. I’d also get some gas for my car since I’m almost on empty at the moment. It’s sensible things like that that keep me from enjoying any money I may get. That and I don’t have a job currently, so I have to take whatever money I get and spend it responsibly. Bah.

2. Do you consider yourself financially savvy? Do you have a good handle on your own financial status? Are you the person who primarily keeps track of your (or your family’s) finances? Do you use a computer program or balance your checkbook by hand?

bq. I feel that I’m quite good with money — when I have it. When i was working in college, despite having to pay tuition and bills and art supplies, I managed to save up a hefty sum that helped me survive when I moved back home before I could get a job. I also usually had enough spare change to be able to buy plane tickets to see my boyfriend at the time, and to rent cars if I needed to drive any distance since the car I used at the time was a heap. And to balance my checkbook, I use the standard “Quicken”:http://www.quicken.com.

3. Do you ever play the lottery? Why/why not? Do you think that it would completely change your life, or would you try to continue with the way you’d been living before? What types of lottery games do you play, and how often?

bq. I’ve tried to play the lottery a couple times, but it’s just not something that’s ever stuck with me. My parents play the lottery all the time, for the past 20 years, and the largest jackpot they’ve won has been around $250. So, while it’s nice to dream and play the chance, it’s just not worth it to me — I could save up the money and get other things like toilet paper or sour cream.

4. Are you a coupon cutter and bargain hunter, or is money no object to you? Do you tend to do things yourself to save money or pay someone else to do them? Or are you somewhere in-between?

bq. I’m not so much a coupon cutter, but I do try to look for bargains if I can. I do like some things being brand-name, but usually I find the generic store-brand is just as good, if not better. And cheaper. With most things, I try to do myself to save some money, but some other things — like oil changes and other car work — I’ll definitely pay someone else to do. So I’m probably somewhere in between with that one.

5. What’s the largest amount of money that you’ve ever held in your hands?

bq. This is a tough one because I’ve never been really well-off. If I had to take a guess, I’d have to say probably around $1,000. And that’s only when I cashed out my checking account before moving to Florida for college. After that I realized that my check card would work across state lines, so I kept money in the bank and just used the debit card. I rarely carry cash with me, though I do have a couple emergency dollars in my wallet. Things are just so much easier with a debit card — you don’t have to worry about counting change or having something jingling in your pockets all the time. And I’m a geek, so I’d love the time when I can have an “RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification)”:http://www.answers.com/topic/rfid chip in my cell phone and have it linked to my bank account and use that to pay for stuff.

Simple Measures

June 23rd, 2005 by T-Fresh

Crisco® has a new _Simple Measures_ bottle. They basically put their cooking oil in a laundry detergent bottle. How clever. I’m sure a lot of housewives will be quite confused, and their husbands will have oily clothes.

POINTS:

2. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 7 (d) 2 (e) 1
3. (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 5 (d) 7 (e) 6
4. (a) 4 (b) 6 (c) 2 (d) 1
5. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 3 (d) 5 (e) 2
6. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 2
7. (a) 6 (b) 2 (c) 4
8. (a) 6 (b) 7 (c) 5 (d) 4 (e ) 3 (f) 2 (g) 1
9. (a) 7 (b) 6 (c) 4 (d) 2 (e) 1
10. (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 3 (d) 5 (e) 6 (f) 1

Now add up the total number of points.

OVER 60 POINTS: Others see you as someone they should “handle with care.” You’re seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant. Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don’t always trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS: Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile, rather impulsive personality; a natural leader, who’s quick to make decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once; someone who takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your company because of the excitement you radiate.

41 TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who’s constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who’ll always cheer them up and help them out.

31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful and practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who’s extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over if that trust is ever broken.

21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy. They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder. It would really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment, expecting you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They think this reaction is caused partly by your careful nature.

UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone else to make the decisions and who doesn’t want to get involved with anyone or anything! They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that don’t exist. Some people think you’re boring. Only those who know you well know that you aren’t.
