First Concert

July 29th, 2005 by T-Fresh

Last night I went to my first concert. I joined “David(Dave the Bad)”:http://www.davethebad.com and Lauren to the _free_ “Better Than Ezra(Better Than Ezra)”:http://www.betterthanezra.com concert in “downtown Portland(Portland Downtown District)”:http://www.portlandmaine.com. All I can say is that it was awesome. There were two opening acts. The first was “Val Emmich(Val Emmich)”:http://www.valemmich.com/, who was okay, but no one I’d really buy, and the second was “Aslyn(Aslyn)”:http://www.aslyn.net, who was awesome. She really can rock out on a piano, and she has a great voice. The waiting and standing were the worst part of the whole concert, but once Better Than Ezra took the stage, it was worth it. They played for a while, and then they were done but came back for an encore and played the song I was really hoping they’d play; “Juicy(iTMS link)”:http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=64945066&selectedItemId=64945007. I have to admit that I think the bass player, Tom, is a real hottie. He had this cute little smirk on his face most of the concert and was really playing off the other band members during songs. At the end of their set, before the encore, BTE(Better Than Ezra) brought someone from the audience up to try and get the crowd all worked up by playing a cow bell — nothing gets you worked up more than a cow bell. But I think it was kind of staged. The guy they brought up on stage was the same guy playing the drums for Aslyn, who is on tour with BTE, and he ended up playing the drums for the last song.

The concert ended about a half-hour later than scheduled, but it was worth it. My feet hurt so much by the time we got back to David’s place that I just wanted to sit around and do nothing, but I helped as much as I could with dinner and then got to rest for “Kiki’s Delivery Service(Majo no takkyûbin)”:http://imdb.com/title/tt0097814/, which was a cute Miyazaki film. It had a little black cat in it who looked just like Serif and was voiced by Phil Hartman.

Take On Me

The spoof of Ah-ha’s music video for the song _Take On Me_ that was shown on the Family Guy episode “Breaking out is hard to do(episode guide)”:http://www.tv.com/family-guy/breaking-out-is-hard-to-do/episode/365979/summary.html. I have no idea how they did this, but it’s pretty seamless.

Wasteful AOL

July 22nd, 2005 by T-Fresh

I don’t understand the deal with AOL. Now they’re not just sending one CD to your door at a time, they have to send _two_. I should sharpen the edges and chuck them at the stupid, slow, annoying people at Wal*Mart.

Jobs come and go

July 20th, 2005 by T-Fresh

Monday afternoon I got a call from Bonney Staffing saying that they may have an assignment for me, but they didn’t have all the information until they met with the client that afternoon. But, they gave me some vague information about the position and asked if it would be okay if they presented my resume to them. It was a regular work hour position with the City of Portland, and was just basic admin duties and the pay was relatively well, compared to what I’ve made before. I, of course, said they could share my resume. I was to get a call back the next morning to let me know what was up with it, and to give me more information so I could make the decision if I wanted the position or not.

Tuesday morning came and went and I never heard anything from Bonney Staffing. Later in the afternoon I decided to call and check up — let them know I am interested in that position, or any if that one was taken. Upon calling, I was met with an apologetic staffing specialist who said she should have called me, but was very sorry. Turns out the job wasn’t what she thought it would be; the culture wasn’t the right match for me; and while it was a long-term position, it wasn’t temp-to-hire, so she didn’t feel that was a good match with me either.

Damn.

But, she confirmed that my data entry skills were excellent, and she was going to continue to look for me, and I can continue to call and check in and to check the website for any job postings and give them a call if I find anything I like.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

July 18th, 2005 by T-Fresh

Saturday, “David”:http://www.davethebad.com and I went to see “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”:http://chocolatefactorymovie.warnerbros.com/. I walked away from that movie firmly believing that “Johnny Depp”:http://imdb.com/name/nm0000136/ is an awesome actor. Willy Wonka was a little creepy, but he grew on me. I later learned that “Marylin Manson”:http://imdb.com/name/nm0001504/ had actually really wanted the part, and because of this, Depp based part of Wonka on Manson — and it shows. Though it would have been an interesting casting decision if Manson had gotten the part.

The oompa loompa were interesting. They’re all played by the same person, and they’re not all orange and green like in the first movie, but they still do their little song and dance when each child meets their perils. And the songs are updated with some of them being more rock and roll and pop.

I think I will give this movie an A.
