Interviewing

December 30th, 2005 by T-Fresh

Today I finally talked to my manager at work about the open job position that’s been posted for quite a while. I’ve been getting jabs by coworkers to apply for the job because I’m a fantastic worker and they all want me to get hired full time so I can do all their work for them. The only thing that’s kept me from doing so were the hours for the position — being nights, I’d have to work 6pm to 2am, and that simply isn’t going to happen. What little social life I have I would like to keep. So, with that said, I talked to my manager today and expressed my interest in staying on in this department and also that the hours weren’t to my suiting and I asked if there might be a compromise. I could possibly work up to 2 nights a week, and then the rest days. He said that nothing about the position is set in concrete, so there may be some flexibility there, but he’d have to talk it over with some others. He also mentioned that I would have some preference for the position since I’ve been working in this department for over a month and have adapted to the workflow quite well and I’ve proven myself and my work ability. The position also has possibilities for supervisory and “team leader” roles, and since I haven’t had much experience in those rolls, I might have something against me. My coworkers have all pretty much said that I could do those rolls no problem, and I believe them. I’m a hard worker when I’m at work. It’s only when I’m at home that I’m a lazy, procrastinating bastard.

So, here’s to wishing me luck that I get hired for this job. It would be a steady job that I wouldn’t have to worry about an “end time” for, and I would be in a union so it would be quite difficult to fire me.

Karma

December 21st, 2005 by T-Fresh

After calling in “sick” to work on Monday because i was in a lot of pain, but not really ill, I had to call in to work today actually sick. I blame it all on karma and a spicy dish I had at a local Thai restaurant on Monday. I had the “drunken noodles” and it must have been about a 63-star dish. It was amazingly hot, but amazingly tasty. It got my nose running, and I think that’s what started the whole getting sick thing.

I hate this feeling because I can’t breathe and my head feels like it’s filled with concrete.

I tried using that AirBorne stuff when i was first getting sick, but I guess I waited too long — all day at work Tuesday with a scratchy throat and an itchy nose — for it to really be of any use. I’m still taking it mainly for the vitamin c and other stuff it has. Hopefully it’ll make things pass quicker. I’m coupling it with DayQuil and Tylenol Sinus; not at the same time.

Chai-nog Latte

December 10th, 2005 by T-Fresh

Today while I was out Christmas shopping, I treated myself to a Chai Eggnog Latte from Starbucks. It was heavenly. It tasted more like eggnog than their Eggnog latte — and I think that’s because of the spiciness of chai.

Try one, you won’t be disappointed!

Colloquialisms

December 9th, 2005 by T-Fresh

Today at work I re-noticed something that I’ve grown up with all my life. It seems that in Maine, people do not know how to pronounce the word “day.” Since I work at a newspaper, people are always saying the days of the week and today it was really bothering me. Instead of “day,” they drop the “a” and pronounce it “dee.” So, instead of Monday, it would be Mondee. Saturday gets more of a bastardization when it gets truncated to Sad-dee.

So, all day I would hear things like “does this ad run Sad-dee?” “No, it runs Mondee.” Or other simmilar inane conversations.

And in case you’re wondering, I pronounce it “day.”

New animals

December 9th, 2005 by T-Fresh

My mom took a trip to Auburn today, in the terrible terrible snow storm that we had, to get a couple of birds she found in the news paper. Cockatiels are usually very expensive in stores and such, and she found two with a large cage for about a third of what you’d pay for just one bird in the store.

They don’t have names yet, I’ll keep you all updated when we figure out to call them.
