Longtime Update
January 21st, 2006 by T-FreshWell, it’s been quite a while since I’ve really sat down and wrote an update of what’s been going on for me. I’ve usually been too tired to write much of anything after getting out of work. That’s right, I’m still working — as a temp. I applied for a full time position in the department at the paper that I’m working in, but I haven’t heard anything about it yet, and it’s been almost 3 weeks. One of my coworkers is out because of a serious car accident she had where she broke 9 ribs on one side. There’s no telling when she’ll come back, if at all. So there might be a position open there that wouldn’t require any nighttime hours. But, again, I haven’t heard anything, and one of my managers is out on vacation right now, so I have a feeling they’re waiting until he gets back before making any decisions.
About 2 weeks since my 25th birthday. I don’t know how much my car insurance has gone down, and I haven’t had the need to rent a car, so I’m not really sure how this is different from other birthdays in the past except that I’m not a quarter of a century old. It’s made me think that I really need to get things in order in my life and start acting like a semi-adult. I don’t think I’ll ever feel like an adult, or get used to the whole adult thing, but I can at least pretend like it in some situations.
As a birthday present to myself, I bought myself a new iPod with video. I got the smaller 30GB model in black. It’s quite sexy, I must say. It’s been working like a charm for the week that I’ve had it. I waited a week after my birthday before getting it because the day after my birthday the MacWorld Expo started in San Francisco and I wanted to wait to see if they were going to introduce anything new iPod-wise. They didn’t so I waited for nothing, but I guess the whole restraint and responsibility thing comes from trying to act like an adult.
To get the iPod, a friend and I drove to the Rockingham Park mall in Salem, NH that has an Apple Store in it. It was a long drive in the rain, and then we got lost in the parking lot of the race track that almost shares a parking lot. But we got there, finally, and had some lunch and then went iPod’n. The Apple Store was quite crowded, probably because Apple did introduce some new hardware at the MacWorld Expo, and people wanted to see if they had any to play with. That meant that there were no sales staff to help me get my piddling iPod. So I picked up the “leather case”:http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=253387 I wanted for it and headed to the registers to check out. After the girl rang up the case, I politely asked if I may have an iPod to go with the case. She chuckled and reached behind the counter and produced one to ring up. I guess they’re just that popular.
The leather case I got for the iPod didn’t work out quite as well as I had hoped. The plastic protector for the clickwheel is a little warped, so you need to press down to use it, and the inside of the case, while being soft, still seemed to scratch the soft-as-butter finish on the iPod. So, to remedy that problem, I promptly knit myself a little sweater for my iPod, which I named Schroeder after the Peanuts character that’s always playing the piano. It looks quite dashing in its little sweater, and it’s quite cushy so hopefully it won’t get dinged in my pocket. You can see photos of the sweater here and here.
While at the mall, I think someone stepped on the zipper of my jacket while it was on the back of my chair in the restaurant thus breaking it so I couldn’t unzip my jacket. So, Sunday I went to LL Bean and tried to find a jacket that I liked. I found one, but since it was on sale, they only had regular medium available for the size. I went and had one of the sales people order one from the catalog for me in a tall size. I got the Wildcat jacket in “Bright Avacado.” It came in today, and I’m in love with it. It has so many pockets, I don’t know what to do! It’s a little snug, but it makes me look slimmer and it’ll be good inspiration to exercise more and lose a bit more weight.
So, that’s what’s been going on with me. It’s been busy, and work’s been pretty exhausting.
