The lure of the iPhone

iPhone Lineup

After criticizing the price, I’ve gone and done it. I now own an iPhone.

My previous phone, the Sony Ericsson w810i had been giving me some problems. The camera shutter button was very dodgy, and once the ear piece gave out completely until I took the phone apart and fiddled with it. Since I was stupid enough to have flashed the phone to unbrand it right after I got it, there was no way I could attempt to take it to AT&T to see if they’d do something about it.

And then very recently David’s phone gave out on him. Just refusing to even turn on. He’s been using one of my old phones for a while, but it’s an ever-buggy Motorola, so he’s been jonseing for a new phone.

Enter the iPhone.

Both of us have been fairly dismissive of the iPhone because of the price, and the fact that it’s a “1.0 product.” David hadn’t even kept up on the news about it. But all of a sudden he started watching the videos on Apple’s site, and reading some reviews about it. All of a sudden he wanted one. Really wanted one.

He decided to leave work early one Friday, and I had an inkling that it was so he could buy an iPhone. During the day I proposed we go get iPhones together the following day. He agreed.

So, now I’m the proud owner of a new iPhone. And I must say, it lives up to the hype for me. I absolutely love it.

When we went to the AT&T store to buy the beloved iPhone, the girl who helped us was extremely nice and knowledgeable. Very rare for a cell phone store. She let us play with some display models for a bit and made sure we knew about most of the features and about the rate plans that went with it. What’s kind of odd is that when we were playing with the phones, she noticed the ring I wear and asked if it was “the unbreakable metal that they have to shatter off your finger if you’re injured, they can’t just cut it off because it’s so hard.” I was amazed that just by sight, she could identify tungsten carbide.

Anyway, I’m absolutely loving the iPhone, and can’t wait to see what updates Apple comes up with next.
