Willy Porter
November 27th, 2007 by T-FreshThree weeks ago David found out that Willy Porter was going to be playing in Lewiston on the 8th. He absolutely loves Willy Porter and was quite excited, but while I’ve heard about him from David, I never really looked in to his music. We decided to go and I started listening to some of his music. He’s absolutely fantastic. Some classify him as “folk” but it’s not what I think of when I think of folk. It’s quite rockin’ and he’s an guitar genius. If you like the acoustic stuff, I would highly recommend checking him out.
The concert was fantastic. What that man can do with just a single guitar is amazing. It shouldn’t be possible.
His percussion guy was pretty great, too. He didn’t use drums or anything really professional. He’d be improvising the beats by tapping on the rim of a water bottle with his rings, or using drumsticks on the soles of his shoes. It pretty refreshing.
And the part where he asked for audience input to write a song on the spot, well, it was hilarious. Imagine a song about reality tv, the price of gas, factory farming and cool whip. I nearly peed myself.
What’s even better is the venue, The Maple Room, was recording the whole thing and had CDs available by the end of the performance. It’s not the whole performance since you can only fit 80 minutes on a disc, but it’s certainly enough to bring back the memories of an enjoyable night out with someone I love at a performance of an amazing artist.
