February 7th, 2008 by T-FreshI finally got fed up with getting offers from AT&T, whom I’m already a customer of, for free or highly discounted phones if I sign up for a 2 year contract on a qualified plan. I already have a plan and a kick-ass phone–why would I want to sign another contract? Nowhere on the letter, or the voice prompts when you call to take advantage of the offer, do they tell you how to opt-out of these offers. A quick Google search revealed the answer, but I figured I’d post the links here either for my future reference, or to help anyone who may stumble across this page and has the same issues I have.
And because I also got tired of getting the “You’re pre-approved!” letters about credit cards, even though my credit history would make any real person making these offers weep, I found the official Consumer Credit Reporting Companies opt-out page. You can opt-in (foolish), opt-out for 5 years, or opt-out permanently.
